Caroline Jagtenberg nominated for the prestigious Jo van Nunen Award

As a global leader in advanced analytics and mathematical optimization, ORTEC takes pride in employing the industry’s top talent. It is with pleasure to announce that our colleague Caroline Jagtenberg, OR Consultant, has been nominated for the prestigious Jo van Nunen Award. A Dutch prize that acknowledges the best dissertation with a practical component in the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Caroline Jagtenberg dissertationCaroline’s dissertation, titled “Efficiency and Fairness in Ambulance Planning”, covers dynamic ambulance management (the real-time repositioning of idle vehicles), ambulance dispatching (is the closest vehicle always optimal?) and tactical models that optimize the trade-off between efficiency and fairness. The rationale behind it is that everyone deserves equal care, however, in practice it is rather expensive to help people living at a remote place. The results of the thesis are an unmistakable example of how mathematics optimize our world. A few released chapters can be found here.

The prize will be awarded on the 29th of November during the vLm Gala. Nominees will get the chance to present their work in front of the jury. It is the third edition of the award, where Ineke Meuffels, Expert Consultant at ORTEC, was the nominee to accept the first Jo van Nunen award.

Our best wishes go out to Caroline and all the other nominees! If you would like to know more about this research or if you would like to receive the full edition, you can send an mail to
